So....some of you may know this, but I missed my last flight back to the US from Sri Lanka a couple of months ago. Just straight-up missed it. I had the wrong time in my head, and the wrong time written down and just showed up at the airport exactly 2 hours late, and thus exactly when my plane took off. For those of you who have travelled with me and been forced to arrive at all stations, etc, really early, since thats how I usually roll, um. Kind of embarassing.
But I was explaining to a friend that it really was the fault of my again, kind of embarassing inability to function in 24 hour time. No, really, they use it a lot in both India and Sri Lanka, so you'd think I would be at least ok about it, but it really confuses me a lot more than I think it really should.
But I have a new theory about this. I have really slight synesthesia - where like, your senses mix up or something. I don't know that much about it, and I think some people have it really heavily and can taste shapes and stuff, but for me it just means that digits have very distinct colors. So 1 is white, 2 is blue, 3 is yellow, etc. They've always had those colors, I remember from when I was little.
And so this is really the problem wit 24 hour time - even though I intellectually understand that 2200 (22-12) is 1000, 2200 is blue and 1000 is white (zeros are black), and so somewhere in my subconscious its really difficult.
Is that making up excessive excuses for me being a little bit dumb about 24-hour time? It does make me seem interesting, though, right?

no wonder math makes so much sense to you! you have to tell me more about your synesthesia-- i've always found that condition amazingly fascinating...
